Superman-Batman sequence from 1980's.

I had occasion to scan these pages from my archives, and they are one of my favorite sequences from when I worked with John Byrne (as scripter & co-plotter) on Adventures of Superman in the 1980's. Here's a meeting between the two heroes. Previously, Lex Luthor got his hands on Ma Kent's Superman scrapbook, and used all his resources to analyze it.  Superman got it back, and gave it to Batman to see what info Lex Luthor could have gleaned from it. Great dialogue here by John. Inks are by Dennis Janke.

Love your Batman Jerry! Love to see you do a non super powered type of character. Ever think of doing a cool detective type like Peter Gunn/ Doc Savage type? I know you did Tom Strong, but I think a more strictly dective type could be very cool. Even Sherlock Holmes.

Epic! Great pages and great history!
I'd like to thank you once again for the interview that you gave me. This is the link to the final story (Spanish):

And your complete interview is in my new comic website (I'm starting an online publishing small company)(Spanish):

Thanks!

I loved this sequence when it was printed — the concept, Byrne's dialogue, your pencils, Janke's inks — and it looks even better in stark black-&-white (at least as objets d'art, with all due respect to Tony Tollin; you still need color and newsprint for an old-fashioned superhero comic book). The way you incorporated a Golden Age feel to both Superman and Batman while keeping them modern, and maintaining your own recognizable style, has always been a highlight for me. And the cover to this issue is such a favorite of mine that I actually put it up on the wall in my college dorm room, as I have told and/or am about to tell you on Twitter. 8^)

Claudio: Is there a version of that interview available in English anywhere?

Thanks all, for checking this out, along with the nice comments! I liked this sequence a lot, and also Dark Knight over Metropolis, which I wrote as well (my part of it) and wish DC would collect it!

Wonderful pictures and blog Jerry! I started reading DC comics with your run on Superman (along with the equally legendary John Byrne).

Its funny but I can remember virtually every issue and would read the books cover to cover several times upon getting a new book! I've just put your recent 'Challengers of the Unknown' story on my to buy list. Great to see you're still working at DC.

What I like best about that second page is how the first three panels play out. In that first panel you seemed to be drawing the Golden Age, Bob Kane/Jerry Robinson Batman and just knocking it out of the park. Then over the next two panels it Batman turned into a Jerry Ordway version of the character. It is just neat to look at.

I liked this issue quite a bit too. It was the lead up to the "first date" between Superman and Wonder Woman and the story was just a lot of fun with all of the little bits of business that made this run of Superman my favorite.
