Sinestro splash page prelim on ebay
This prelim was done 6 x 8 1/2, mainly to establish the perspective of the Green Lantern graveyard, because the perspective points would have been unwieldy on a full sized art board! I adjusted a lot, in photoshop, and printed this out in blueline onto 2 ply strathmore drawing paper, to ink. The finished art is below.
Sinestro is copyright and trademark DC Comic 2011
Beautiful piece. If I may, what kind of printer and scanner do you use? I can't seem to find an affordable one that will print on two ply bristol.
ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeleteI use an old Epson 836 xl scanner, which scans 11X17" material. For printing, I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400, a wide format printer, to handle 2 ply strathmore paper. The scanner was purchased many years ago, as a refurbished machine, under 500 dollars. To replace it, it would cost a thousand at minimum, though. A smaller scanner is fine, you just need to patch two scans of a page together. As to the printer, it was maybe 230 dollars. Epson has some good deals in their factory refurbished section on their website. I know a few artists who use a Brother A3 large format printer/scanner combo, but I personally have no experience with that machine. It apparently can print on heavier stock, though. Best,JER
Thanks so much, Mr. Ordway. I have been looking at the Brother A3's but someone on their forum told me it would not print on bristol but it would print on card stock. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteTim, I know several artists who print on art paper with that machine. I think there may be a special setting or adjustment you have to do, but it works. With my Epson, i have to make sure the paper's edge is straight, or the rollers won't pull it into the machine, but that's it. My guess is that the Epson is a better made machine, but as I said, I have no experience with the Brother. I've had the Epson for a couple of years, and use the epson inks too, not refilled ones, and had no problems so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the info. I may give the Brother a try. I need an A3 scanner too and you can't beat their price. It's tough being broke!
